Tennis court guideThe best tennis courts in Miami

Miami is a green-clay town with a tour-level crown jewel and free bayfront courts, all in one metro. The catch is that the best courts are spread across an island, the beach, and the Gables, with a few different booking systems in between. Here are the best public courts area by area, what makes each one worth it, and how to actually book. Every court below has a live page on Doyouplay where you can see who plays there and line up a partner before you go.

How booking works in Miami
Miami has three main public booking systems, which is what trips up newcomers. Miami-Dade County courts like Crandon take online reservations through the center's site. Coral Gables courts (Salvadore and Biltmore) use the city RecTrac system at playgables.com, with cheaper rates for Coral Gables and Miami-Dade residents and an in-person account setup the first time. Miami Beach's Flamingo Park books through its own center. And the simplest option of all, Morningside Park, takes no booking at all: it is free and walk-on.
Key Biscayne
Crandon Park Tennis Center
The crown jewel and the most scenic place to play in Miami: 27 public courts, hard and green Har-Tru clay, on a barrier island next to a top US beach. It was the Miami Open's home from 1987 to 2018, and the old stadium still stands. Reserve online, and budget for the causeway toll and the mosquitoes. Crandon Park Tennis Center.
Miami Beach
Flamingo Park Tennis Center
South Beach's clay heartbeat: 17 Har-Tru courts, clay here since the 1930s, with a famously social scene of leagues and round robins minutes from the sand. Modest hourly fees and an easy place to find a game. Flamingo Park Tennis Center.
Coral Gables
Salvadore Park Tennis Center
Thirteen lit clay courts run by the city, a neighborhood clay haven with no toll and no beach parking war. Book through RecTrac; residents pay less. Salvadore Park Tennis Center.
Biltmore Tennis Center
Ten lit courts next to the historic Biltmore hotel, one of the prettier public settings in the city, with an on-site academy. Same RecTrac booking and Coral Gables rates as Salvadore. Biltmore Tennis Center.
Mainland Miami
Morningside Tennis Center
The free option: lit hard courts on Biscayne Bay, walk-on, first-come, no reservations and no fee. The easiest place in Miami to just show up and play. Morningside Tennis Center.
A few more worth knowing
On the west side, Tropical Park has roughly a dozen lit public hard courts. For resort tennis, the Ritz-Carlton on Key Biscayne runs clay courts with Cliff Drysdale pros. And for something different, there is ocean-side beach tennis at 3rd Street in Miami Beach.
