Mt. San Antonio College

Mt. San Antonio College, known as Mt. SAC, sits at 1100 N. Grand Ave., Walnut, CA 91789. The campus has 11 outdoor tennis courts, coded 730T on the campus map. The college built them for the Mounties team, which plays in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference, but local players use them too.

Walnut and the surrounding area

Walnut is a suburb east of Los Angeles, with rolling hills and family neighborhoods. The Mt. SAC tennis courts sit at the campus's eastern edge, overlooking practice fields and Hilmer Lodge Stadium. You'll hear varsity practices alongside casual hit-arounds from nearby residents.
Players drive in from the 60 Freeway to the north, or take transit to the campus transit center. Neighbors bike over from Walnut's residential streets, where homes back onto open spaces. This plays calmer than LA's public parks, set against the San Jose Hills.

Access and costs

The public can use the courts, but the college prioritizes students and programs, so walk-ons may find the gates locked during team sessions or off-hours. There is no advertised booking system for non-students. Access is first-come, first-served when the courts are open, and parking permits are required 24/7 from kiosks in nearby lots L, R, and S. Daily parking runs on event-based fees, often $2-10, and casual court use is free if you're cleared to enter.
The 11 outdoor hard courts are open year-round. Lighting details are unconfirmed, so plan for natural light; evening access depends on campus security hours. Courts are competition-grade and host Mounties matches, so lines and nets are well maintained. Winters drop to the 50s and summers top 90F with little shade, so bring sunscreen and water.

Visitor essentials

Plan parking ahead: take spots in lots L, R, or S and pay the meters or kiosks to avoid tickets from campus safety. Call (909) 274-4555 with any issues. Campus security patrols the area, and you can use Text-A-Tip at (909) 610-9139.
Walnut's weather stays mild most days, with rare rain, but watch for Santa Ana winds that kick up dust on the exposed courts. For food, Grand Avenue has coffee at chains like Starbucks a few blocks west, plus pho spots and boba shops. Near campus, taquerias off Temple Avenue serve quick bites.

Finding a hitting partner

The student-first access can make Mt. SAC feel hard to crack for newcomers. Doyouplay lets you browse local players by skill level and message them directly to arrange a game.
Verified players share practical tips, like which windows tend to have open courts after team practice. There are no commitments, and it is free to browse.
At Mt. SAC, tennis is part of Walnut's sporting life, and a way to meet other players in the hills above campus.
