Granville Park Public Tennis Courts sit in Vancouver's Fairview neighborhood at 1630 W 15th Ave. The public courts give casual players a place to hit near the city's older sporting clubs.
Fairview & court history
Fairview sits just south of downtown Vancouver, with tree-lined streets near the Fraser River. Granville Park dates to the late 19th century, when the Canadian Pacific Railway laid out courts and similar spaces for arriving upper-class residents. The public courts sit next to the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club, founded in 1887, which hosted championships won by players such as Bernie Schwengers.
The courts draw a wide range of players: retirees rallying in the morning, professionals fitting in lunchtime sets, and families teaching kids the basics. Residents from nearby condos and heritage homes walk over, cyclists arrive from Kitsilano or South Granville along Fir Street, and the 15 bus stops at the door.
Free play & court conditions
The courts are free, walk-on only, with no reservations for casual drop-ins. The City of Vancouver manages them. Asphalt surfaces suit the coastal climate and locals say the nets hold up through wet winters. There is no lighting after dusk, so winter visits require an early start.
Play runs best from April to October. Rain leaves puddles after downpours, though the surfaces drain reasonably well. Bring your own racket and balls; pickup games favor those who arrive ready. Most regulars play at an intermediate level, and newcomers often pair up on quieter weekdays.
Getting there & nearby
Parking is free and street-side but tight. Try spots on W 15th Ave or the nearby Granville Park loop, and watch for residential permits. Fairview is a family-oriented area with lit paths and a steady daytime presence. For food and coffee, walk five minutes west to Fir Street cafes like Matchstick Coffee Roasters for a flat white, or get a matcha latte at nearby Bean Around the World. After a match, head to the Granville Island Public Market across the park for salads or fish tacos, or get a beer at the Granville Island Brewing taproom, all under 10 minutes on foot.
Dress in layers. Vancouver's weather brings fog off the inlet and sudden showers, even in summer, so check radar before you go and pack grippy shoes for damp courts. The site has wheelchair access and bathrooms.
Finding a rally partner
Showing up alone can be a barrier, especially for people new to Fairview. Doyouplay connects players into doubles pairings. Browse by skill level, filter by time slot or preference, and use the 1:1 chat to compare notes before committing. An active Vancouver community posts Granville Park sessions daily.
Granville Park's courts remain a public counterpart to Vancouver's older tennis clubs, open to anyone with a racket. Stop by, and you may leave with more than a workout.
