G Tennis
G Tennis runs three locations across Lambeth: Clapham Common, Larkhall Park, and Vauxhall Park. The program pairs award-winning coaching with an inclusive approach in one of London's more tennis-friendly boroughs.
Tennis in Lambeth
A Borough Built for Tennis
Lambeth has eleven public tennis court sites, from a single court at Streatham Common to eight at Clapham Common. All are LTA-registered and all use secure pin-code gate access.
Each G Tennis venue has a different feel. Clapham Common, home to the Bowling Green Cafe, draws players from across South West London. Larkhall Park and Vauxhall Park are quieter but equally accessible.
How to Play: Booking, Costs, and What to Expect
Courts at G Tennis venues are booked through ClubSpark, the same platform covering all of Lambeth's public tennis sites. The same account works for other borough courts.
G Tennis offers group and one-on-one lessons for kids and adults. The coaches teach fundamental technique first, then move to training that consolidates skills through drills, then coaching that develops tactical understanding through match play. For beginners, this structure removes the anxiety of showing up to a court without guidance.
The outdoor courts at Lambeth sites are macadam or concrete.
G Tennis and Community
In 2022, G Tennis won the LTA Park Provider of the Year award. Coaches Catherine and Chris launched a fundraiser after the pandemic reduced young players' access to the sport. To date it has raised over £25,000, which funds free or subsidized coaching for local kids and some adults. Partnerships with The Cheer Trust and the Big Kid Foundation have surfaced county-squad talent that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. Their registered charity, Young Champs, continues this work.
Practical Matters: Getting There and Playing Comfortably
Clapham Common is the easiest G Tennis location to reach by public transport, with several bus routes and the Northern Line's Clapham Common station nearby. Larkhall Park and Vauxhall Park connect well too, though they see less traffic. Parking exists but fills up on weekends, so arrive early or take public transport.
Clapham's high street has coffee shops and casual restaurants within walking distance of the courts.
Lambeth winters are grey and damp; summers are warm but unpredictable. Sessions run in light drizzle.
Finding Your People: The Partner Problem
New players face one common obstacle: finding someone to play with. Group lessons don't always produce regular partners, and walking onto a court alone is awkward. Player-matching platforms let you browse by skill level, message potential partners, and build connections without formal club membership.
For anyone new to Lambeth or returning to tennis after a break, the eleven public sites across the borough give plenty of room to find informal play. G Tennis coaching programs add structure when you want it.
Why Lambeth Matters
Tennis runs deep in Lambeth through public investment, LTA oversight, and coaches like those at G Tennis who want the sport open to all. Beginners can find group lessons, intermediate players can find regular partners, and lapsed players can reconnect with the game. The infrastructure and community are here.
Book a court or sign up for a lesson through ClubSpark. When you want partners and a regular schedule, the Lambeth tennis community is a good place to start.
